This is an authentic handmade antique reproduction of The Colonial Horn Book. Made of solid black walnut, it displays the 18th century alphabet in both small and capital letters, with syllabic processions, and the Benediction with Lord’s Prayer. It is printed in traditional Caslon typeface on handmade antique- laid linen paper. The Horn Book was laminated traditionally with pellucid horn (lamination of the colonial age). We use a special lamination that simulates the horn material used in the 18th century.

The Horn Book is embellished with an antique brass border. Hung on your wall or laying on a table top, this exquisitely finished black walnut Horn Book can still teach children reading skills and instill Godly values. As our Colonial schools would start the day with the Lord’s Prayer, it’s our hope that the horn book will help to remind us of the way our children started each day in the Colonial school room.

The mould has a fine bronze mess surface screen with a 1/4 " backing wire screen and (5) support ribs for successfully trouble free papermaking. This simple, yet distinctive, Japanese-style album is made entirely by hand. Using multiple materials and techniques, both ancient and contemporary, the paper is formed on laid wire moulds using cotton and linen rag.

The pasteboard cover is called itamegami, and contains hand-dyed leaves from Thailand. Inside the album are 35 laid blank pages, each with a heart shaped watermark.

For protecting and preserving your special photographs, each shimmering page is bond with an archival linen overlay sheet. The 15th century-style binding, known as daifuku cho, is bound with a thread called shifu, made from washi paper. The album is held closed with a linen sash around a handmade porcelain button.

The album comes with a matching hand stitched pasteboard box for safe keeping.
